As educators we passionately believe every student should have the support they need to reach their full potential.
But Government cuts and underfunding mean teacher and principal workloads are now so high that it is affecting teaching and learning.
Only one quarter of teachers have enough time to ensure lessons are well planned and three quarters say they can’t meet the needs of students struggling with their learning*.
To deliver for our children we urgently need:
- Smaller class sizes
- More one-on-one support
- More time for lesson planning
- A 3% wage rise to stop our most experienced teachers being the lowest paid in Australia
Unfortunately, Will Hodgman’s Government refuses to listen so we have to take action to achieve these urgently needed changes.
On Tuesday 27 November in the North and North-West and Wednesday, 28 November in the South, we will be attending stop work meetings in the morning and not arriving in schools until 10.30am.
Many of us are parents ourselves and we apologise for any inconvenience this action may cause. We hope you understand and agree that a well-resourced school system that delivers for every child, every day is worth standing up for.
